Whether you need an ECA for immigration or higher education purposes, WES is NOT the only evaluation agency that does an ECA. Whether you need an ECA in the US or in Canada, WES is NOT the only evaluation agency that does an ECA. Yes, you read that right. WES is one of the most popular evaluating agencies, however, it is NOT the only agency that does an ECA. 

Where should I get an ECA if I am applying for higher education in the US or in Canada?

If you are applying for higher education in the US or in Canada, first visit your US/Canada college/university website and check the requirements for evaluating your international degrees. Universities will usually ask for a Course-by-Course evaluation.

 

For example, the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota states that it needs a WES ICAP for post-secondary education completed outside the US. Please read the "International Applicant Requirements" section on the University of Minnesota website.

Another US community college, Saint Paul College, recommends an ECA from WES or ECE among others. On the page "Credit for Prior Learning", please read the "International Transcripts" section for more information.

If you are unable to find any details about the international ECA or transfer of credits on the foreign college/university website, you can always email that foreign college's/university's "admissions" office and request them for more information.

 

NOTE: Some universities evaluate your documents directly without involving any third party evaluators (such as WES, ECE, etc.). In such a case, the university will ask you for a copy of the syllabus for the degree you obtained along with your statement of marks (mark sheets/transcripts) and degree certificates. Please obtain these documents from your Indian university in a sealed, stamped, and signed envelope. Email the foreign university to know the procedure to send these documents.

Where should I get an ECA if I am applying for Canadian immigration?

If you are applying for immigration to Canada, your educational background can increase your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, thereby increasing your chances to be selected for immigration by the Government of Canada.

But before doing that you need to get an ECA (evaluation for immigration) from a "Designated organization". It is your choice to choose any evaluating organization from the list provided by the Government of Canada.
